Mashrek Academy of Music, Jordan

Iyad Sughayer has always been passionate about making a meaningful contribution to the musical opportunities of his home country, Jordan. A former student of Mashrek International School, Iyad’s own journey through the world of music was shaped by the opportunities he received while studying in the UK. This sparked a desire to offer young Jordanians the same high standard of music education he had experienced abroad.

During a visit to Mashrek, Iyad reflected on the challenges faced by young musicians in Jordan, who often had to leave the country to find the specialized education and resources they needed to flourish. He envisioned creating a world-class music academy right in Jordan, where students could develop their talents without having to go abroad. This idea laid the foundation for the Mashrek Academy of Music (MAM).

Drawing on Mashrek’s mission to nurture the potential of each student, Iyad collaborated with the school to turn his vision into reality. With MAM now a thriving part of Mashrek International School’s esteemed educational environment, young musicians have access to professional training and a supportive community, allowing them to pursue their dreams without leaving their homeland. The program is designed to identify and develop students’ musical abilities, helping them reach new heights in their artistry.

Since its founding in 1992, Mashrek has grown into one of Jordan’s leading educational institutions, offering a bilingual, coeducational International Baccalaureate (IB) program for students from Pre-K to Grade 12. With over 1,500 students from more than 26 nationalities, the school continues to uphold its commitment to excellence and innovation, now bolstered by the addition of MAM to its world-class offerings. Through Iyad’s vision and dedication, a new generation of Jordanian musicians can now receive the support and education they need to thrive.
